How to Fix GTA Online
Login Issues

If you can't log into GTA Online or keep getting kicked back to the login screen, follow these steps. First check whether Rockstar Games's servers are down — server outages are the most common cause of login failures.

Step-by-Step Fix

1
Check Rockstar service status
Visit support.rockstargames.com/servicestatus. If the Rockstar Games Launcher or Social Club services are down, you won't be able to log into GTA Online.
2
Restart the Rockstar Games Launcher
Fully close the Rockstar Games Launcher from the system tray. Wait 30 seconds, relaunch, and try signing in again.
3
Clear Rockstar Games Launcher cache
On PC: navigate to %localappdata%\Rockstar Games\Launcher and delete the cache folder. Relaunch the launcher.
4
Check your Rockstar Social Club account
Visit socialclub.rockstargames.com in your browser and confirm you can log in there. If not, use the password reset flow. Social Club credentials are your GTA Online login.
5
Unlink and relink your platform account
Visit socialclub.rockstargames.com → Settings → Linked Accounts. Unlinking and relinking your PSN or Xbox account can resolve authentication issues.
6
Disable VPN and proxy settings
Rockstar blocks access from VPN IP addresses. Disable any VPN before launching GTA Online. Also check Windows proxy settings are off.
Is it server-side?
Check real-time player reports — if reports are spiking, it's on Rockstar Games's end, not yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I log into GTA Online?

GTA Online login failures are caused by Rockstar's servers being down, a Social Club authentication issue, or a VPN blocking the connection. Check support.rockstargames.com/servicestatus, disable VPN, and try restarting the Rockstar Games Launcher.

GTA Online says "Failed to host a GTA Online session" — what does this mean?

This error means Rockstar's matchmaking servers couldn't create a session for you. It's usually server-side (check their status page) or caused by a Strict NAT type blocking peer connections.

My Rockstar Social Club account was hacked — what do I do?

Visit socialclub.rockstargames.com → Lost Password immediately. Change your password, update your email, and contact Rockstar support to report the unauthorized access and request any lost items be restored.
