How to Fix Minecraft
Login Issues

If you can't log into Minecraft or keep getting kicked back to the login screen, follow these steps. First check whether Mojang / Microsoft's servers are down — server outages are the most common cause of login failures.

These steps are provided for informational purposes only and may not reflect the latest game updates. Port numbers, menu paths, and settings can vary by platform and version. Step-by-Step Fix

1
Check Microsoft account service status
Visit xboxstatus.com and check "Sign-In" status. Minecraft requires a Microsoft account, so Microsoft auth outages block all Minecraft logins on all platforms.
2
Sign out of Microsoft account in launcher
In the Minecraft Launcher, click your account name in the top-left → Log out. Wait 30 seconds, then log back in with your Microsoft credentials.
3
Clear Minecraft Launcher cache
Close the launcher. Navigate to %appdata%\.minecraft\ and delete the "launcher_accounts.json" file. Relaunch — you'll be prompted to sign in again with your Microsoft account.
4
Verify your Microsoft account is linked
Go to account.minecraft.net and confirm your Minecraft profile is properly linked to your Microsoft account. Legacy Mojang accounts required migration; unmigrated accounts can no longer log in.
5
Sign in via Microsoft website first
Go to microsoft.com and sign in to your Microsoft account via browser. This refreshes your token and sometimes resolves launcher login loops.
6
Reinstall the Minecraft Launcher
Download the latest Minecraft Launcher from minecraft.net/download. Your worlds and settings are stored in %appdata%\.minecraft\ and won't be affected by a launcher reinstall.
Is it server-side?
Check real-time player reports — if reports are spiking, it's on Mojang / Microsoft's end, not yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I log into Minecraft?

Minecraft login requires a Microsoft account. If you're unable to log in, check xboxstatus.com for Microsoft auth outages, ensure your account was migrated from the old Mojang system, and try signing out and back into the launcher.

Minecraft says my account doesn't own the game — how do I fix this?

This error means the launcher can't verify your license. It's usually a temporary Microsoft auth issue. Sign out of the launcher, clear launcher_accounts.json in %appdata%\.minecraft\, and sign back in.

My Mojang account stopped working in Minecraft — why?

Mojang migrated all accounts to Microsoft accounts in 2022. If you haven't migrated, you can no longer log in. Go to account.minecraft.net and follow the migration process to link your Mojang profile to a Microsoft account.
