How to Fix Valorant
Crashing

If Valorant keeps crashing or freezing, follow these steps in order. Crashes are almost always local — GPU drivers, corrupted files, or conflicting software — rather than server-side issues.

Step-by-Step Fix

1
Update GPU drivers
Valorant crashes are frequently caused by outdated NVIDIA or AMD drivers. Open GeForce Experience or AMD Adrenalin and install the latest driver using the clean install option. Restart your PC.
2
Verify Vanguard is functioning correctly
If Vanguard errors on startup, it will crash Valorant. Check the Vanguard icon in the system tray. If you see an error, try restarting your PC. Vanguard requires Windows 10 or 11 with Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 enabled.
3
Disable conflicting overlays and software
Discord overlay, NVIDIA GeForce Experience overlay, Xbox Game Bar, and third-party RGB software can conflict with Vanguard and crash Valorant. Disable all overlays and test.
4
Lower graphics settings
In Valorant Settings → Video: set Material Quality, Texture Quality, and Detail Quality to Low. Disable Multithreaded Rendering if you have 4 or fewer CPU cores. These settings reduce crash risk on borderline hardware.
5
Run Riot Client as administrator
Right-click the Riot Client shortcut → Properties → Compatibility → check "Run as administrator". This gives Riot Client and Vanguard the permissions they need to launch correctly.
6
Reinstall Valorant
In the Riot Client, uninstall Valorant (not the client itself), then reinstall. This takes longer but eliminates corrupted game files as a cause of crashes.
Is it server-side?

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Valorant keep crashing on PC?

Valorant crashes most often from outdated GPU drivers, software conflicts with Vanguard anti-cheat (overlays, RGB software), or a corrupted game installation. Update GPU drivers, disable all overlays, and try reinstalling Valorant through the Riot Client.

Valorant crashes with a "VAN" error code — what does that mean?

VAN error codes indicate Vanguard anti-cheat issues. VAN9003 means TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot isn't enabled — check your BIOS/UEFI settings. VAN1067 means a driver conflict — update or roll back your GPU drivers.

Valorant crashes when I enter a match — why?

Match-load crashes usually mean a GPU driver issue or Vanguard conflicting with another running process. Update GPU drivers, disable Discord and GeForce overlays, and if the issue persists, do a clean reinstall of Valorant.
