How to Fix Valorant
Login Issues

If you can't log into Valorant or keep getting kicked back to the login screen, follow these steps. First check whether Riot Games's servers are down — server outages are the most common cause of login failures.

Step-by-Step Fix

1
Check Riot authentication status
Visit status.riotgames.com and look for "Login" or "Authentication" issues. Riot auth outages affect all Riot games simultaneously — Valorant, League, and Wild Rift.
2
Fully restart the Riot Client
Right-click the Riot Client icon in the system tray → Quit. Wait 30 seconds, then reopen. Don't just close the visible window — Riot Client continues running in background.
3
Check if Vanguard is running
Valorant requires Vanguard anti-cheat to be active. If Vanguard isn't running (check system tray for the shield icon), restart your PC — Vanguard starts at boot. If you see a Vanguard error, address that first.
4
Clear Riot Client cache
Navigate to %localappdata%\Riot Games\Riot Client\Data\ and delete the "RiotClientInstalls.json" file. Also clear %temp% files. Relaunch the Riot Client and try logging in.
5
Disable 2FA temporarily for testing
If you're stuck in a 2FA loop, log in via account.riotgames.com in your browser, go to Security, and temporarily disable two-factor authentication to regain access.
6
Reinstall the Riot Client
Uninstall both Valorant and the Riot Client via Windows Settings → Apps. Download a fresh Riot Client installer from playvalorant.com. Your account data and settings are cloud-saved.
Is it server-side?
Check real-time player reports — if reports are spiking, it's on Riot Games's end, not yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I log into Valorant?

Valorant login issues are usually caused by Riot auth servers being down, Vanguard not loading properly, or a stale Riot Client session. Check status.riotgames.com, ensure Vanguard is running, and fully quit and relaunch the Riot Client.

Valorant says "There was an error logging in" — what does that mean?

This generic error usually means Riot's login servers are experiencing issues or your session token has expired. Fully quit the Riot Client from the system tray, wait a few minutes, and try again.

My Valorant account is banned — what do I do?

Valorant bans are issued for cheating, abusive behavior, or account sharing. Log into your account at account.riotgames.com and check for a ban notification. You can submit an appeal through Riot support if you believe the ban is a mistake.
